A Handful of Harmonies has chosen to support Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough as its “Charity of the Year” for 2017.
We have been moved by the passion shown by the staff at Thorpe Hall and the huge emphasis shown on quality of life - giving every patient the palliative care and support they need so they can spend their time as they choose. At Thorpe Hall care and support is given to adults with active, progressive and advanced illnesses who may need help with managing symptoms such as relieving pain, or may require specialist end of life care. They have a team of specialist staff which means every patient is given exactly the help they need, when they need it. They also provide care to patients’ families and loved ones too – providing ongoing support through their family support team. The day service centre is open to those with long-term conditions who come along on a regular basis to join in activities and outings, and exercise in the specially-adapted rooms.
This year will see the opening of a new £6m purpose built unit which will improve facilities for patients even further. As a charity, Sue Ryder has to generate a substantial amount of its own running costs each year and we are delighted at the prospect of working alongside the fundraising team to help them meet this challenging target.
