September 2015 NEWSLETTER

Harmonies & Harminies

Where did the summer go – next week sees the beginning of the autumn term and we know what’s coming after that! Still – I’ve missed my ladies and looking forward to seeing you all again very soon. There will be more new material to learn as always plus regular trips down memory lane as we revisit the back catalogue.

Changes to Sessions – please read.

A few changes to let you know about – firstly a permanent change of time for the Deeping Group whose sessions will be 1030 am to 1200 noon on Wednesdays at the Priory Church Hall from 2nd September.

Secondly a permanent change of venue for the Oundle group to Woodnewton Village Hall, Orchard Lane, Woodnewton, Peterborough, PE8 5EE. This is for two reasons; primarily cost - the group is still quite low in numbers but always high in enthusiasm; and secondly, as Woodnewton is slightly nearer to Peterborough it is hoped that previous Peterborough class members may consider carrying on with us at Woodnewton instead. I am missing my core Peterborough ladies and hope to see some of you again this term.

Thirdly this coming Friday 4th September the Langtoft session will be held at Baston Village Hall (The Barn), Main Street, Baston PE6 9PA – in the corner of the playing field by the tennis courts. This is a one off, only for this session, the following week we will be back in Langtoft.

The current schedule version 5 is available under the regular member’s area of the website if you want to check details of other sessions.

Pode Hole Women’s Institute Supper

Tuesday 1st September; at the Bromley Memorial Hall - I am still taking recruits for a small choir to sing at this event – please see the member’s area calendar for details.

Billingborough Concert “An Evening with A Handful of Harmonies”

Saturday 26th September; if you are taking part in this you may have noticed a new song has entered our repertoire. “Leave it to the Ladies” is now on the website – there is a lyric sheet, an mp3 of the vocals and a backing track. The piece will be sung in unison so no worries about harmonies for this one – belt it out World War II style. It’s a cracking number which I just know you are going to love!

Music Stands

Pat Weavers, as Treasurer of Friends of AHoH, was successful in securing a donation of £500 from News International for us to buy thirty music stands. Massive thanks to Pat for her work on this proposal

These have been duly purchased and it was suggested that some are stored with choir members to make it easier to transport them to venues. If you would be willing to store a music stand or two and bring them along to performances when necessary, please will you let me know by email. Thank you in anticipation!

A Handful of Harmonies CD Experience II

There has been huge interest in recording our second CD and I am delighted with the response. Unfortunately some members have signed up but are yet to pay. We really do need to know how many of you will be taking part, and what the group mix will be. If you have booked but not yet paid please can you give your money to me or the bursar by Friday 4th September – after that date I will delete any unpaid members and you will need to sign up again please.

Just to remind you Karen and Rachel (Friends of AHoH reps from Langtoft and Oundle) have set up this exciting opportunity on 12th September at Spalding United Reformed Church when we will record the tracks. If you want to be part of this amazing venture please sign up here:

https://www.handfulofharmonies.co.uk/events/cd-recording-experience-2/

There will be also be a rehearsal on Sunday 6th September 4 pm to 6 pm at Bourne Abbey Church Hall and it is recommended that you attend if you can, please.

Charge will be £20 per person which covers the costs of recording and includes a copy of the finished CD for you. The finished product makes an excellent stocking filler and the CD will be ready in good time for Christmas.

The production of this CD is a joint venture between A Handful of Harmonies and Friends of AHOH.

Harmonies Autumn Term Fees

It’s not too late to pay your fees on line – still the same rate so your health giving singing experience is still great value!

Annual General Meeting

Friends of AHOH will be holding their AGM on Tuesday 29th September in the Green School, Church Street Market Deeping PE6 8DA. Arrival from 7-30 pm please for a prompt start at 7-45 pm. This is a public meeting and anyone is welcome to attend. We will be reporting on our year to date and plans for future fundraising – and we would love you to bring along some new ideas. Hope to see you there.
