October 2015 NEWSLETTER

Half way through October already - how did that happen? The term seems to be going well with new members appearing at some of the sessions, but there is always room for more and I would like to thank those of you that have distributed fliers around the patch and are helping to spread the word about our lovely groups. We are covering a wide variety of music this term as well as reworking some of the old favourites, so I hope that you continue to enjoy your AHoH experience.

There are no sessions at any venue the week beginning 26th October – this is not a change and the schedule has always shown this but just making sure you have realised as I don’t want anyone turning up for a session that is not happening!

Stamford AHOH

With effect from next week -21st October the weekly Stamford sessions will commence at the later time of 7-00 pm until 8-30 pm. I am hoping that this change of time will make the session more popular. I am also looking for an alternative venue for the January term. The final date at the United Reformed Church Hall in Stamford will be Wednesday 25th November.

Booking for Concerts

There have been a few problems lately where we have arrived at concerts and some of the singers I was expecting haven’t turned up and hadn’t let me know. This has an impact on the whole performance as I try to achieve a good mix of voices so if some people are missing it affects everyone. I have emailed out details of a slight change in my processes where I will now “hold” some applications to keep the voice mix even. So please, please, if you are booked to perform at a concert and find you are no longer available, can you let me know with as much notice as possible so that I can add the next person on the waiting list.

That said there are several singing opportunities currently available for booking:

A Handful of Harmonies CD Experience II

We were delighted to record our second CD on Saturday 12th September – some slight changes to planned content but ultimately we were pleased with the selection and are looking forward to hearing the final result quite soon – just in time for Christmas. I would like to say a huge thank you to Karen and Rachel (Friends of AHoH reps from Langtoft and Oundle) for setting up this exciting opportunity for us, and to the forty nine choir members who took part.

You may know that I have a special birthday coming up on Tuesday 27th October and I am hoping that some of you will be able to join me to celebrate. I will be having an afternoon tea party on the day from 1-30 pm to 4-30 pm in Langtoft Village Hall and everyone is welcome to come along for all or part of the afternoon.

Friends of A Handful of Harmonies have organised a theatre trip to see Beautiful – The Carole King Musical on Thursday 12th November for the matinee performance. Two tickets have become available so if you would be interested in seeing this highly acclaimed show please contact Genevieve Stocker at sessions or email:

And finally .....

Friends of A Handful of Harmonies run social events and other fundraisers throughout the year to raise money to support the choir -more information can be found on the following link: or see the Friends’ display boards.

Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm- going from strength to strength in year five with my singing family!
