January 2013 NEWSLETTER Harmonies & Harminies

Website

I am extremely pleased to report that the brand new Harmonies website went live on Friday 4th January. The new improved website now offers an online shop, the facility to register for events yourself online, detailed information about the Friends of Group, the Children’s Choir and the Show Choir as well as many other tweaks designed to make the web experience simpler for you as members. For improved security the members area now requires me to authorise your membership which will prevent non‐HoHer’s registering.. and there were some!! This does mean that you will need to re‐register for the members area. If you were planning to sing for the Church concerts in February and March you will also need to re‐register your interest in performing at those events. I welcome any comments you may have regarding the website and if there is anything you would like to see included that isn’t please do let me know.

Material Spring Term 2013

Whilst I do not have a full schedule of material for the Spring Term – as this takes away my spontaneous creative side I can confirm that we will be working on pieces from Sister Act, The Sound of Music, “Fix You” by Coldplay, “Total Eclipse of The Heart”, “Something Inside So Strong” and many more pieces. I do consider all requests and whilst the list is lengthy I do endeavour to use some pieces from the request list each and every term. Feedback on the material is always welcomed! In addition we will be revisiting some of the pieces from last year to polish them for the Church Concerts in February and March – song lists for these will be available online very soon.

Venue Changes – January 2013

Whilst I am not keen on changing venues I am keen to ensure that the venues I use for sessions are suitable for the “work” that we do in our classes. I am pleased to report two moves this term – detailed below. Members have been informed but for any of our Premier Plus members or any ad‐hoc attendees the details of the new venues are below.

Peterborough St Andrew’s United Reformed Church Hall, Ledbury Road, Netherton, PE3 9RF.

Spalding Bromley Memorial Hall, Bourne Road, Pode Hall, Spalding, PE11 3LL

Oundle

Our brand spanking new Oundle class launches January 10th 2013 at Laxton Junior School, Oundle from 7.00 – 8.30pm on a Thursday evening. This will run for 6 weeks initially to see if there is interest in the group with every intention of the session becoming the next member of the Harmonies family. Anyone is welcome to attend to give the group a boost if they wish to do so and there will be no charge to existing members during the first term.

15th December 2012 ‐ Tesco Market Deeping

Thanks to all who gave their time on this day through collections we raised £170 for Cancer relief – not bad going for an hour’s “work”. Thank‐you.

15th December ‐ Ness Group Christmas Concert

Another great evening – thanks to all the Harminies/monies who took part. The evening raised £250 for the Willoughby School, £250 for the Ness Group Choir – who have kindly donated £25 to Friends of AHOH.

17th December – Christmas Fayre

A great evening was had by all who attended – thanks of course to Suzanne Schultz and anyone else who held a stall or was involved in any way, shape or form. We raised £430 for the Friends of A Handful of Harmonies – more details of the Friends can be found on the new revised www.handfulofharmonies.co.uk

Friday 21st December – Christian Aid Big Christmas Sing, Thackers Park, Deeping, 7.00 – 8.00pm

£133.12 raised for Christian Aid – thank to all of our singers and our small but beautifully formed band!

Friends of A Handful of Harmonies

As you may be away we have a “sister” community group called the Friends of A Handful of Harmonies. I am very keen to raise the profile of this wonderful group as they are the backbone of co‐ordinating fundraising that will ultimately benefit you as a member of HoH. Contact details for the chair, minutes of meetings and details of your session rep can be found on the website at www.handfulofharmonies.co.uk
